I finally saw Transformers: The Movie last night.  And it was awesome!  It was a welcome trip back to my childhood.  I was thrilled to see one of my favorite childhood cartoons brought to the big screen in "live action".  There were twists and changes to the Transformers' history that weren't in the original animated series.  Major players like Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Bumblebee were present.  But the feeble and lovable Dinobots weren't.  And definitely not being a purist, I didn't mind at all.  The plot line was predictable -- good prevailed over evil, geeky teen gets the hot chick, homesick soldier fights for his life and the safety of the world to make it back to his army wife and newborn child.  The special effects made up for all that.  I didn't care about a deep story line.  The movie was a great action-flick, plain and simple.  It was about being drawn into this warped reality and thinking it was believable even for a second.  A bit too long and indulgent on the battle scenes, this movie does not disappoint anymore than that.  Don't wait for it on DVD.  Autobots, roll on!!!
